| About TAÇDAM |
|
TAÇDAM aims to develop
research capabilities of METU on cultural
and historical heritage by documentation,
rescue operations, conservation and
assessment in required methods and
techniques, to undertake these interventions
through co-operations with national and
international institutions, to publish
research results periodically and to promote
education and training in these fields of
interest. Since the foundation year of 1966,
the centre has had an multi-disciplinary
approach and has always supported and led
similar projects. This centre functions in
terms of sub-units. These units are:
archaeological research, documentation,
historical environment assessment, museology
and conservation.
Projects accomplished by TAÇDAMIn the 1960s, when the university campus was being constructed, an early Bronze Age site, Koçumbeli and Iron Age settlement of Yalıncak were excavated by the University's initiatives. These operations gave rise to the foundation of METU Museum within the frame of an archaeological research centre. During 1970s under the co-ordination of TEKDAM, METU gave priority to the salvage of and publication about the archaeological heritage which was scheduled to be inundated by the lake of the Keban Dam. Publications by METU on the Keban Project have aroused interest in the archaeological community. The excavation of the Phrygian Tumulus in Ankara-Beştepeler under the scientific directorship of Prof.Dr. Sevim Buluç, excavations at Aşıklıhöyük carried out by Prof.Dr. Ufuk Esin and investigations at Teos, near İzmir conducted by Dr. M.D.Uz are among the projects accomplished in the 1980s. In the same years Dr. Numan Tuna began the archaeological survey and ceramic workshops excavation in Datça Peninsula and the Burgaz excavation followed it in the 1990s. Research concerns of TAÇDAM
